The Challenges of Cross-Triathlon
<< Update: Dominik had a serious accident at the end of February. We wish him a swift and full recovery and hope to see him back in action soon. >>
Passion, perseverance, and relentless ambition – this sums up Dominik Wychera perfectly. The Austrian pro triathlete has specialized in cross-triathlon, combining his strengths in XC/marathon mountain biking and trail running – the ideal foundation for this tough-as-nails sport.
Dominik on his eyewear of choice:
"Since 2016, I’ve been relying on sports glasses from SIOLS Vision. As a professional triathlete, these glasses are my daily companion and in use 365 days a year. The large AERO lenses give my eyes the best possible protection from dust and sunlight, allowing me to fully focus on my training sessions. Depending on the discipline, weather, and light conditions, I choose my lenses to be perfectly prepared for the situation."
Whether it’s the X-Terra World Championships, Red Bull Dolomitenman, or trail running marathons – Dominik always gives 110%.
And SIOLS is right there with him as a reliable partner, because at peak performance levels, it takes more than endurance and skill – it takes the perfect gear, including high-performance sports eyewear.
His 2024 season?
A rollercoaster of victories, setbacks, and unforgettable moments.
A strong start with tailwind from Oman
The year kicked off with a bang: at his first major race of the season – the X-Terra World Tour in Oman – Dominik took an impressive 2nd place! A perfect start that gave him the confidence boost he needed for the challenges ahead. He continued on to the first World Cup race of the season in Taiwan, finishing in a respectable 12th place. And he knew: there’s more to come.
Then came the first mental test:
At the X-Terra World Cup in Greece, Dominik wasn’t sure if he would even start. But those who know Wychera know he faces every challenge head-on – and that’s exactly what he did! An emotional race that reminded him why he loves this sport so much.
A setback – and a major comeback
After a short break, Dominik jumped into a local MTB marathon for a change of pace before heading to the Austrian Cross-Triathlon Championships. Once again, he showed his class and took home the silver medal.
But sport can be unforgiving: at the World Cup in Belgium, he was forced to drop out due to a technical defect on his bike (DNF). A low point – but certainly not the end.
His focus shifted to the X-Terra European Championship in the Czech Republic. Dominik prepared intensely with mountain bike marathons and fine-tuned his equipment. The result of all that effort? 9th place in both the long-distance and short track events – his best result of the season!
And always at his side: his SIOLS glasses, giving him perfect vision in every race situation. Because in wild conditions with forest, mud, and water – everything needs to be just right.
Silver in Costa Rica and the big World Championship goal
In August, the next major challenge awaited: the Xterra Costa Rica World Tour. Despite tropical conditions and fierce competition, Dominik claimed another silver medal.
With that momentum, he focused on the season’s grand finale – the Xterra World Championship in late September. It was all or nothing – and he delivered his best World Championship performance to date. In the end, he secured an impressive 14th place – a fitting conclusion to a tough, but successful year.
What remains? Ambitious goals – and a partner who’s always there.
With his achievements and experience, Dominik Wychera ranks among the most consistent athletes on the international cross-triathlon scene. His ambition knows no limits – he’ll keep pushing and chasing new personal bests.
"For me, SIOLS glasses are the perfect combination of style, quality, and performance," says the athlete. "I’m sticking with them – and I’m always excited for the next product innovations."
